A Day Late... or two

So here is a crappy Photobooth picture of the mask I made. Once I find where I lost my camera cord, I will upload a real picture. I also have yet to upload my pictures from my trip to Virginia.
Anyway, the mask was a plastic one which I covered in Mod Podge and zebra print tissue paper. Then I added some black feathers and sticky rhinestones around the one eye. Unfortunately I spent Halloween working, and didn't get to actually dress up.
How was the rest of your Halloweens?

November Challenge!

I know we haven't got October's responses posted yet (I myself still need to scan mine in) but I figured I'd hurry up and get November's Challenge posted. So here is your assignment: Combine the organic and the mechanical in a piece. Cyborgs, post apocalyptic wasteland, whatever you want. Have fun!

Finished Mushroom Challenge!

I've finished my mushroom challenge, a week late, but finished! (Deleting the work in progress post, mostly to save room on my Flickr account.)

Mushroom Challenge

Like I said, it's based on mushroom gill patterns. The chasing on this is done, but I think that when I incorporate it into a piece, I may make a few others and then turn them into a necklace. (In that case, it will be oriented sideways.) Otherwise, I'll just make it into a pendant.

October Challenge

The challenge for this month is Masks! I want you guys to have fun with it, by doing something different and making a mask. Well, different for Shanna and I, Casey makes stuff all the time. So go get some glitter and feathers and have lots of fun. You must upload a picture of yourself wearing said mask by Halloween.

Mushroom Challenge

Here is my submission. I created a pattern using all the names of the mushrooms in the article, and different fonts that I thought worked with the name and origin of the mushroom.
Not sure what else to write about it...

Another find!

Here's a really amazing piece of work. It's an animation/illustration/performance, which means you really just need to watch it.

Arting

So, here's the two pieces I've been working on lately. The blackbird piece has been worked on for longer, and done with watercolor and watercolor pencils. Also, I did this quick-in-drawing-long-in-painting illustration based on the song "The dirtiest queen." by Lovedrug.

Brilliant and still Commercial

So, I've always had this struggle with commercial jewelry. It's always very much the same, frequently overdone and in bad taste. Well, funnily enough, this jewelry could have been more commercial than any, since it's a collaboration between Jewelry.com and Macy's, of all things. They paired up to celebrate New York. And here's what we got instead of commercial junk:

It's absolutely brilliant. Perfectly commercial, gold and stones, but not commercial at all. This would fly in the art jewelry world as well. It may not be to everyone's taste, but as far as commercial jewelry goes, some of this (and there are a couple of pieces I don't like at all, so the collection should suit almost everyone) is absolutely amazing.

You can view the rest of the collection at http://www.jewelry.com/manhattan-iconic-01.shtml

September 2009 Challenge

Alright, challenge is up! This month, your mission is mushrooms. Specifically, that article. So, go! Make a guide to something, make actual mushrooms, paint them, use the shape or the texture in something, but for the love of challenges, make something.

Ongoing Challenge

Traci suggested this challenge, inspired by this community. We'll keep it running indefinitely, as of opposed to the monthly challenges. The idea is that you pick a theme and then address it using the following words as filters:
  1. Interior
  2. Exterior
  3. Time
  4. Monochromatic
  5. Complementary
  6. Friends
  7. Enemies
  8. Lovers
  9. Parent/Child
  10. Birth
  11. Death
  12. Card Suite (Heart/Spade/Club/Diamond)
  13. Water
  14. Earth
  15. Fire
  16. Air
  17. Food/Meal
  18. Spring
  19. Summer
  20. Fall
  21. Winter
  22. Weather
  23. Broken
  24. Fixed
  25. Light
  26. Dark
  27. And
  28. Passing
  29. Spirit
  30. Birthday
  31. Holiday
This is an extremely edited version of the list that the above community uses. As an example, say you picked a theme like Recycling, you'd go through and pick one of the words above, say winter, and use the two ideas in a piece. Be as free or strict in interpreting them as you like. I suggest aiming for at least one a month and trying to stick with the same theme. Post your responses and label them with the word "ongoing" so we can find them later.

Hey Everybody

Right, so for now it's just the three of us. But since we swap art links and cool stuff anyway, I figured it'd be easier for us to do it here, so they're all in one place and not lost in the archives of Facebook and AIM conversations. So, without further ado, here's the first image and link for you:
